Spirit of Wheaton Mural, 1990
Artist: Maryland College of Art and Design
Located on an exterior wall of the Mid-County Regional Services Center, the Spirit of Wheaton Mural adds some historical context to the Wheaton area. Five buildings—none of which survive today (along with an early 20th century automobile) are depicted in this rectangular mural that spans the length of the wall. The mural depicts each structure and the year it was removed for new development: Graeves Home, 1922; Lieshner Radio Repair, 1948; Little Tavern Café, 1950; Hickerson Station and Store, 1925; and Getty Farm, 1912. It’s a reminder of what Wheaton looked like before there was a downtown.
